American Red Cross: No Pets: Yes, at least one horse Status of pets: OK, with owner General information about the incident: Numerous calls were received by fire dispatchers that a building, maybe a house, was on fire and numerous explosions were also being heard. As firefighters responded to the incident, a very large column of thick black smoke could be seen from all across the Las Vegas valley. When firefighters arrived they found a very large, old wooden-type outbuilding that might have been used for horses at one time, fully involved. A small outbuilding that might have been used for storage of horse items was also fully involved. There was limited water resources in the area, so a second alarm was dispatched to the scene.
Even with intense flames and limited water, firefighters were able to bring the fire under control in less than 30 minutes and they prevented the fire from spreading to a large log cabin-type building.
Investigators ruled it accidental. A trash fire destroyed a large house on the front of the property on Aug. 2 at 6:37 p.m. Workers were cleaning the property of the destroyed house and had just cleared it completely off the property earlier today. They were working on the rear property cutting some steel with a torch and it caught some trash on fire. The two workers used a garden hose and fire extinguisher to put the fire out, but it quickly grew out of control.
The property is in unincorporated Clark County. There were no injuries.
