City Of Las Vegas Cultural Arts & Community Events March 22-28
Easter Egg-Decorating Workshop March 27 For Children And Adults

 

Residents age 7 and older are invited to participate in an Easter egg-decorating workshop on Saturday, March 27, from 2 to 4:30 p.m. at the East Las Vegas Community/Senior Center, 250 N. Eastern Ave. Attendees will create personalized Easter eggs using several techniques. Instructor Bobbie Ann Howell will encourage participants to submit completed works for display and entry in the April 3 Easter Festival Egg-Decorating Contest. The cost to participate is $3 and includes all supplies. Advance registration is required. Call (702) 229-1515 for registration and more information.

Fourth Annual Diggy Awards Digital Photo Contest Exhibition

The public is invited to meet the photographers, view the entries and witness the awards presentations for the Fourth Annual Diggy Awards Digital Photo Contest. The winner in each of 10 categories — landscape, nature, people, black and white, PhotoShop, architecture, humor, wildlife, travel and action — will receive a Diggy Award. All contest entries were due by March 15. Entries will be judged by a panel of local artists and professional photographers. The award-winning photographs will be displayed through April 2.

Ethnic Express Folk Dancing (ages 13+)

Catch the Ethnic Express for an international evening of fun! Dances include Armenian, Bulgarian, Chinese, Greek, Russian, Serbian and Turkish, to name a few.

Free National Letting Go of Stuff Day (ages 50+)
Thursday, March 25, 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Derfelt Senior Center, 3343 W. Washington Ave., (702) 229-6601.
Bring your unwanted, good-condition items to the center and staff will transport them to a local charity. Clean out those closets and get rid of all the “stuff” cluttering up your house. 
 
National Waffle Day Breakfast (ages 50+)
Thursday, March 25, 9 to 11 a.m.  Advance registration required.
Fee: $3

Celebrate National Waffle Day with a fresh breakfast of waffles with grits, bacon and coffee.

Kids Night Out (ages 5-11)

Children have fun playing games, making crafts and watching a movie. Pizza and drink provided.

Scottish Country Dancing (ages 13+)
Friday, March 26, 6:30 to 8:45 p.m.
Cost: $5 general admission, $4 for Southern Nevada Old-Time Contra Dancers members.

Cosponsored by Southern Nevada Old-Time Contra Dancers, the National Folk Organization, and the city of Las Vegas. This class is not suitable for younger children unless they have previous dance experience. Scottish Country Dancing is the beautiful “ballroom” dance of Scotland. The dances may be lively and joyful or gentle and graceful. From the first chord to the final bow or curtsey, dancers are inspired by the driving reels, jaunty jigs, snappy strathspeys or lilting slow airs. And thanks to the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society, any dancer can be welcomed by a local group almost anywhere in the world.

This showcase features talented young dancers performing in a professional setting.

Earth Hour Celebration (all ages)
Saturday, March 27, 8:30 to 9:30 p.m.
Earth Hour 2010 is a global conservation effort organized by the World Wildlife Fund, which selected Las Vegas as a showcase city for the event. The city of Las Vegas, along with other local government agencies, businesses, individuals, schools and major landmarks, will lead cities and countries throughout the world in turning off non-essential lighting in what will be the largest conservation effort in history.
