City Of Las Vegas Cultural Arts & Community Events April 19-25
Earth Day Concert At East Las Vegas Community/Senior Center April 23

 

Everyone is invited to enjoy the music of accomplished flute player/maker Tim Blueflint of the Bad River Chippewa and Comanche Native-American tribes on Friday, April 23, at the East Las Vegas Community/Senior Center. Raised in the traditional manner of his people, Blueflint is an educator whose concert will surround the audience with the sounds of nature in a musical celebration of Earth Day. Tickets to the 7 p.m. concert are priced at $5 per person, and are free for children 12 years and younger. Call (702) 229-1515 for tickets and information.

Ethnic Express Folk Dancing (ages 13+)

Catch the Ethnic Express for an international evening of fun! Dances include Armenian, Bulgarian, Chinese, Greek, Russian, Serbian and Turkish, to name a few.

Earth Day Celebration & Picnic (ages 50+)
April 22, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Advance registration is required.
Fee: $4

Red Hat Rally (ages 50+)
Friday, April 23, 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Advance registration required.

Are you a Red Hat member meeting at a city of Las Vegas senior center? Then you are invited to join us! This annual event is a lot of fun for our Red Hat participants! Enjoy live entertainment, displays and a three-course meal!

Cowboy Poetry Luncheon (ages 50+)
Friday, April 23, 11 a.m. Pre-register by April 22. Advance registration required.

Enjoy a chuck wagon lunch and entertainment.

Kids Night Out (ages 5-11)

Children have fun playing games, making crafts and watching a movie. Pizza and drink provided.

Free Movie In The Park – “WALL-E” (all ages)
Friday, April 23, gate opens at 6:30 p.m. Movie starts at dusk.

Enjoy the family film “WALL-E” (rated G) and popcorn while supplies last. Other refreshments will be available for purchase.

Scottish Country Dancing (ages 13+)
Friday, April 23, 6:30 to 8:45 p.m.
Cost: $5 general admission, $4 for Southern Nevada Old Time Contra Dancers members.

Cosponsored by Southern Nevada Old-Time Contra Dancers, the National Folk Organization, and the city of Las Vegas. This class is not suitable for younger children unless they have previous dance experience. Scottish Country Dancing is the beautiful “ballroom” dance of Scotland. The dances may be lively and joyful or gentle and graceful. From the first chord to the final bow or curtsey, dancers are inspired by the driving reels, jaunty jigs, snappy strathspeys or lilting slow airs. And thanks to the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society, any dancer can be welcomed by a local group almost anywhere in the world.

Earth Fair 2010 (all ages)
Saturday, April 24, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Admission is free at all locations.
At three Walmart locations:
• 6464 North Decatur Boulevard – at I-215
• 4505 W. Charleston Boulevard — at Decatur Boulevard
• 7200 Arroyo Parkway — I-215 at South Rainbow Boulevard
Bring the family to learn about the importance of preserving and improving our environment by recycling, reusing and reducing. Each site will have a shredding truck, Goodwill donation sites, and other green opportunities. Presented by the city of Las Vegas in partnership with Walmart, Beasley Broadcasting Group and other community partners.

Young Artists Showcase Series – “The Classics” (all ages)
Saturday, April 24, 2 p.m.
Tickets: $5, available at the door.
Reed Whipple Cultural Center, 821 Las Vegas Blvd. North, (702) 229-6211.
Enjoy classical music by some of Las Vegas’ finest young musicians in trios, duos and solo.
This event is presented in conjunction with the Las Vegas Youth Orchestras.
