Fire Guts Downtown Motel Room
|
| |
|
Las Vegas firefighters responded to the City Center Motel at 700 Fremont St., (at Seventh Street ) at 9:45 a.m. today. When firefighters arrived, heavy smoke was showing from the two-story motel. Firefighters found the fire in a first floor guest room and put the fire out in a couple of minutes.
The fire completely gutted the room. Some of the hallway had slight fire damage as well as the motel office next to the guest room. Damage was estimated at $50,000.
Motel staff told fire investigators that someone had rented the room last night, but had already checked out this morning.
A maintenance worker noticed light smoke coming from the room and when they opened the door they observed the bed on fire.
Two people were taken to University Medical Center for smoke inhalation. One was a passerby who stopped to assist, and the other was a guest who had a previous medical condition that is aggravated by smoke. Neither conditions are life threatening.
Fire investigators said the room and all of its contents were completely burned out and finding the exact source of the fire was undetermined.
