City Council Approves Pilot Project With The Home Depot To Cut Red Tape
Customers Will Soon Be Able To Get Water Heater, Water Softener Permits At Stores

The city of Las Vegas is making it even easier for customers to get a building permit when they purchase a new water heater or water softener. The Las Vegas City Council today approved an agreement with The Home Depot for a pilot program that will allow customers to get the proper permits right in the stores, saving them time and an extra trip.

The agreement will allow The Home Depot to provide a proof of permit for water heater and water softeners and to collect payment from customers for the building permits at no cost to the city. The payment will be transferred to the city with the permit information where the permit will be processed and issued to the customer. Customers will then be directed to the city’s website to schedule their inspections, which can now be done seven days a week.

Initially, the pilot program will include locations throughout the valley in 12 participating stores, including the following four city of Las Vegas locations:

• 861 S. Rainbow Blvd.
• 1401 S. Lamb Blvd.
• 7881 W. Tropical Pkwy.
• 9705 W. Charleston Blvd.

The purpose of the pilot program is to help contractors and home owners obtain proper building permits. Permits are required to keep the public safe by making sure certain appliances are installed properly and that other construction meets safety codes. The permits are sold at the PRO Sales Desk in the stores.

The agreement is for 90 days with six-month renewal options. The pilot program will determine the feasibility of allowing a private company to interface with the city’s permitting software to assist with the issuance of permits. Initially, the kiosks will only offer permits for water heater and water softeners. Similar agreements are planned to be considered by Clark County, North Las Vegas and the city of Henderson.
