Bedroom Fire Damages Northwest Las Vegas Home
Two People and Three Dogs Are Displaced

Two adults and three pet dogs are displaced after a fire in their northwest Las Vegas home early Friday evening. The American Red Cross is assisting the family. There were no injuries in connection with the incident.

Fire dispatchers received numerous calls at 7:12 p.m. that smoke was coming from a home at 5000 Drifting Creek St. (Decatur/215). When firefighters arrived on scene they found a fire in an upstairs bedroom of a two-story wood frame/stucco house. Firefighters had the fire out in less than five minutes.

Damage was confined to the bedroom. There was minor smoke damage throughout the rest of the house. Damage was estimated at $50,000.

Fire investigators believe the fire is accidental. The cause of the fire is undetermined, they could not rule out careless smoking.

Occupants told fire investigators they were home when the fire started. They were watching TV downstairs when they heard a crashing noise from upstairs. When they went upstairs, smoke was coming from the master bedroom.  When they looked inside, curtains extending from a nightstand were burning up to the ceiling. They evacuated the home and called 9-1-1.

There was smoking material found throughout the house. The occupant told investigators they were burning incense early in the evening also.

The American Red Cross is assisting the family.
