Two adults are displaced tonight after a fire gutted the garage of their northwest Las Vegas home. Fire investigators have ruled the fire accidental. There were no injuries in connection with the incident.
Fire dispatchers received a call at 7:35 Friday evening that the garage of a house at 8232 Maplestar Road (Vegas/Durango) was on fire. When firefighters arrived a few minutes later, heavy flames and smoke were showing from the garage of the two-story wood frame/stucco house.
It took only a few minutes for firefighters to put the fire out and keep it from entering the living portion of the house.
The fire gutted the garage. There was no damage to the interior of the home. Damage was estimated at $10,000.
Two adults live in the home. One of them was home alone when the fire started. He said he noticed that the internet service to his computer kept going out and then he heard noises from the garage. When he opened the door from the interior of the home to the garage, he found the garage full of smoke and an orange glow. He went to get a pitcher of water and when he returned he said the smoke was too thick, so he evacuated the house.
The cause of the fire is undetermined, but ruled accidental. The man told fire investigators he was in the garage earlier smoking and trying to get a stereo system to work on a table, but it would not work. He left and went inside. A little while later, the fire occurred.
