Fire dispatchers received several calls at 6:32 p.m. that a house on the corner of Valley Drive and Melody Lane (Rancho/Vegas) was on fire.
When firefighters arrived they found a one-story wood frame house at 4180 Melody Lane fully involved with fire, flames were also going through the roof. The house is located on an island of unincorporated Clark County which consist of older homes in an established neighborhood. The development has older small fire hydrants which are insufficient by today’s standards. Firefighters had to lay long stretches of fire hoses to get adequate water to fight the fire. Firefighters had the fire under control in 15 minutes.
The vacant house had previously burned on Dec. 30, 2012 and sustained heavy damage. After the fire today, the house was completely destroyed.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by Clark County Fire Investigators.
During the fire, Metro Police responded to the scene to assist with traffic control. As officers arrived, a call for a home invasion was received in the immediate area. Police were in the area as three individuals were seen running from the front door of a house. Police pursued and were able to apprehend two adult males and one juvenile. Neighbors later told police that three individuals were seen running from the front door of the vacant house just before it caught fire. Metro Police is working with Clark County Fire Investigators to see if the three individuals being detained by Metro were connected to the house fire.
There were no reported injuries during the incident.
