The Alliance for Innovation has announced that the city of Las Vegas has been selected to receive a 2013 Outstanding Achievement in Innovation award for its Development Services Process (DSP) Program.
Over the last few years, the city restructured its development services process to more effectively meet the needs of customers. The development services process includes the steps one must go through to obtain permits and other documents needed during the building and planning process. The city hired outside consultants, Kirchhoff & Associates, to conduct an analysis of the existing development services process.
A number of changes were made, including the creation of a “one-stop-shop” for the development community now located at the Development Services Center, 333 N. Rancho Drive. The Planning Department, Building & Safety Department, Land Development, City Engineer, Fire Prevention, Business Licensing, Public Works and Operations & Maintenance offices are all located in the building. The DSC also offers a new help desk and expedited plans check reviews.
The Alliance received more than 70 award applications from across the United States and Canada to compete for the honor of being selected as an Outstanding Achievement in Innovation Award recipient for 2013.
The Alliance is a network of local government professionals seeking innovation and governmental excellence. Membership consists of 400 innovative organizations in the United States, Canada and Australia dedicated to making an impact on the communities they serve.
A national selection committee consisting of city and county managers, Arizona State University facility and Alliance executive staff, carefully reviewed the 70+ applications for innovation, creativity, performance outcomes and the overall success of the programs.
Awards will be presented at the Alliance’s Annual Transforming Local Government Conference, April 10-12 in Atlanta, GA.
