City Of Las Vegas To Celebrate Pickleball Court Grand Opening July 30
Exposition Game & Refreshments At 7:30 P.M. At Police Memorial Park

City of Las Vegas Mayor Pro Tem Stavros S. Anthony invites residents to the ribbon-cutting and grand opening ceremonies for the new pickleball court at Police Memorial Park at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 30.  Enjoy a free exposition game, practice games, rules overview and refreshments, while supplies last. The park is located at 3250 Metro Academy Way.

The new pickleball court was repurposed from a former roller hockey court that was not being used. Lit for nighttime use, this new facility at Police Memorial Park is expected to be a popular venue for local youth, working adults and seniors. The court will be available for public use on a first-come, first-serve basis when the park is open, 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily.

“I hope residents will join me at the park and see what a great addition this court will be to the community,” said Mayor Pro Tem Anthony. “Pickleball is fun and good exercise for all ages – a great way to enjoy being outdoors with friends and family.”

Invented in 1965, pickleball is the fastest growing sport in the country. It has been played on virtually any smooth flat surface where the ball could bounce – including driveways, tennis courts and basketball courts. It is now played in every state and growing internationally. The governing body in the United States is the USA Pickleball Association (www.usapa.org/), headquartered in Arizona. Last October, pickleball became a featured event at the Nevada Senior Games. The pickleball event, hosted by the Darling Tennis Center, attracted more than 120 players from more than 20 states.
