Downtown Food Truck iPhone® App Now Available
Downtown Food Truck Schedules And Information Updates In Real Time

Information about the city’s pilot program for downtown food trucks is now available through the city of Las Vegas App for iPhones®. The free app shows what food trucks are currently in three designated spaces downtown and also features a map and schedule as well as links to the food truck’s websites.

The city has teamed with Code for America to develop the free app that updates in real time. The information can also be viewed on the city’s website at www.lasvegasnevada.gov/foodtruck or through the #dtlvfoodtrucks hashtag on Twitter.

“Working with the city we were able to transform what was initially slated to be an internal food truck monitoring system into a public facing app,” said Lou Huang, a 2013 Code for America Fellow who helped design the app. “By putting a public interface on the same data the city is using for internal processes we are able to quickly and easily provide valuable information to the residents of Las Vegas.”

In October, 2012, the Las Vegas City Council approved an ordinance that requires food trucks to be no closer than 150 feet to a brick and mortar restaurant. The pilot program for food trucks allows operators to park in one of three designated food truck spots downtown. The spots are located at 100 Bonneville Ave., near the Bonneville Transportation Center; 1 Lewis Ave., behind City Hall; and the 400 block of South Third St., in front of the Regional Justice Center.

Code for America is a non-profit organization working to bring together a network of civic leaders and organizations to build and support web-based infrastructure to help local governments become more transparent and connected to the people they serve.

The city applied for, and was awarded, a fellowship for the year along with other cities including New York, Kansas City and San Francisco. The mobile food vendor app is the first Code for America app released in Las Vegas this year. For more information on Code for America visit www.codeforamerica.org.
