Northwest House Fire Under Investigation
No One Injured During Incident

Four people are displaced after a fire damaged their northwest Las Vegas home early Sunday morning. The two people inside the home were able to escape without injury. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Fire dispatchers received the call at 4:37 a.m. that a house at 6637 Chardonay Way (Gowen/Rainbow) was on fire. When firefighters first arrived on scene, flames were shooting out the window of an upstairs bedroom. Firefighters were first told on arrival that the only two people who were in the house at the time of the fire were outside safe.

Firefighters went upstairs and were able to put the fire out in just a few minutes. Fire damage was confined to the one bedroom. Two other bedrooms and a bathroom had heat and black smoke damage. The first floor just had an odor of smoke. Damage was estimated at $25,000.

The two people who were in the home at the time of the fire told fire investigators that they were downstairs when the fire started. They went upstairs for something and saw some clothing on the floor on fire which was extending to the bed in the bedroom. They attempted to put the fire out using a fire extinguisher, but the fire was too far along. They evacuated the house and called 9-1-1. The home did not have smoke alarms in it.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Fire investigators confirmed the fire started in the bedroom. They are looking into the possibility that the fire may have started due to careless smoking.

Three adults and one child are displaced because of the fire. They did not require assistance from the Red Cross.
