Las Vegas and Clark County firefighters responded to a house fire in the Lakes area near South Fort Apache Road and West Desert Inn Road at 11:36 Sunday morning after neighbors reported smoke in the area. No one was home at the time of the fire. There were no reported injuries.
Firefighters found heavy smoke coming from a two-story wood frame/stucco house at 3208 Crystal Pool Drive when they arrived on scene. When they forced entry into the home they found it full of smoke.
Firefighters found the fire in a room next to the kitchen and had it out in a few minutes.
A breakfast nook and the kitchen sustained the most damage. The rest of the house had smoke damage. Damage was estimated at $80,000.
Fire investigators believe the fire started in a stuffed chair in the room next to the kitchen. The fire then spread to the kitchen. Fire investigators could not determine the exact cause of the fire. They said it appeared to be accidental.
Only one person lives in the house. He was not home at the time of the fire. He arrived a short time later while firefighters were still cleaning up. He said he had no idea how the chair could have caught fire.
