Seniors and adults are invited to attend a new acting class at the Charleston Heights Arts Center, located at 800 S. Brush S.

Art as Life: Autobiographical Acting, will take place on Wednesdays from 1-2:30 p.m. This six week class is $45 and open to beginners. Led by theatre instructor Telia U. Williams, this course will teach basic acting concepts while mining the material of participant’s very own lives. Using autobiographical elements and stories from each student's life experiences, students will create monologues, scenes, and improvisations, while utilizing common theatrical techniques and tools. To develop technical skills, special emphasis will be placed on training in vocal placement, intonation and projection. For substantive skills, the class will emphasize motivation, connection with audience and character development. To register or for more information, visit www.artslasvegas.org/classes/register.htm or call (702) 229-6383.

Williams hails from New York City where she began performing as a child. Williams earned a master’s degree with honors in Theater Studies from Brown University where she worked with Trinity Repertory Theater and Rites and Reason Theater; studied with Paula Vogel, Aishah Rahman, A. Lorraine Robinson, Peter DuBois and George C. Wolfe. Williams wrote a chapter in an anthology on American theater, edited by Harry Elam of Stanford, and David Krasner, of Yale University, for Oxford University Press, which was published in 2000. She also worked with Robert Brustein and The American Repertory Theatre (ART) while she was a student at Harvard Law School, and taught acting and theater studies to Harvard undergraduate and high school students. In Las Vegas, Williams has performed with the Austin Dancers Academy, headed by Chazz Young and Debbie Austin.
