Two-Alarm Fire Damages Northwest Valley Home
No One Was Injured During Large Fire

A large home on the northwest side of the valley was heavily damaged by fire late Wednesday evening, the cause of the fire is under investigation.  Two adults are displaced because of the fire.  There were no reported injuries during the incident.

Fire dispatchers received a call from the homeowner at 9:38 p.m. that smoke was filling their home at 4540 N. Conquistador St. (CC215/Lone Mountain Road).  As firefighters were leaving the station, a large column of smoke could be seen in the sky indicating it was a large fire.

When firefighters arrived a few minutes later, flames were showing from the attic a 4000 square foot – one story wood frame house.  Firefighters were told by the occupants that everyone was out of the house.  Firefighters first entered the home to make an interior attack, but the fire had quickly spread across the attic and broke through the roof.  Larger fire hoses and an aerial ladder truck were needed to bring the fire under control.  Firefighters were hampered by limited fire hydrants in the area and had to lay long lines of fire hoses to get adequate water to the scene.

Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control within an hour and confine it to the home despite the fact there were other nearby buildings which were not damaged.

The two occupants told firefighters that they had been burning wood in the fireplace in the living room for several days.  Smoke started coming out the fireplace into the living room.  When one of the occupants went up into the attic to check for a problem, he yelled down to his wife to call the fire department, there was a fire.  Both escaped without injury.  He believes the fire was around the chimney pipe of the fireplace.

The house is in unincorporated Clark County.  The fire will be investigated and a cause determined by Clark County Fire Investigators.  They will also determine a damage estimate.
