Celebrate National Neighborhood Day

At the September 6 City Council meeting, the city of Las Vegas formally adopted a resolution to recognize National Neighborhood Day, a nationwide effort designed  to create stronger, more caring and effective communities.

The festivities began with a kick-off event at the City Council meeting. Dozens of neighborhood leaders visited booths and displays with information on how to make their neighborhoods better places to live, work and play. The city also unveiled its new neighborhood porch trailer.

The effort continues throughout the month with a number of events planned in the community. The city invites residents to celebrate National Neighborhood Day at one of several community events.

Mirabelli Community Center and Howard Lieburn Community Senior Center, 6200 Elton Ave. and 6230 Garwood Ave.

National Neighborhood Day Community Celebration at the Park
Children's Memorial Park, Gowan Road and Torrey Pines Drive
10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Residents are invited to enjoy free food and refreshments, family fun and activities, including a bike rodeo, cake walk and the library district’s Web on Wheels.

Sunday, September 17
Ward 3: Mayor Pro Tem Gary Reese
 National Neighborhood Day Event
Gary Reese Freedom Park at Mojave Road and Washington Avenue
3 to 6 p.m.
Residents are invited to enjoy free food and refreshments, family fun and activities, including a bike rodeo, cake walk and the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District’s Web on Wheels.

Saturday, September 23

Community Action "N" Neighborhoods Community Celebration
East Las Vegas Community Senior Center
250 N. Eastern Ave.
10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Residents are invited to participate in special safety and gang prevention training, enjoy free refreshments and learn about after school recreational/sporting activities. Special appearance will be made by actor/star James B. Thompson, “The Rope Master,” the Los Angels 16 Candles and the gatekeepers from KA at the MGM Grand Hotel.
