Child Care Facility

A “Child Care Facility” is any establishment operated and maintained for the purpose of furnishing care on a temporary or permanent basis, during the day or overnight, for compensation, to one or more children less than eighteen years of age. For the purpose of this definition, “furnishing care” does not include: (1) The occasional care of a neighbor’s or friend’s child for a period not to exceed four weeks. (2)  Care provided in the home of a natural parent or guardian, foster home as defined in Chapter 424 of NRS or maternity home. (3) Care provided in a family dwelling in which the only children received, cared for and maintained are related within the third degree of consanguinity or affinity by blood, adoption or marriage to the person providing the care. This is a privilege license, a background check and Child Care Licensing Board approval will be required.

4.      The applicant of a facility is required to be the director of the facility if they qualify or appoint a suitably qualified person to be the director where required. Directors at facilities offering preschool programs and nurseries for infants and toddlers must meet additional qualification requirements.

6.      At least 4 months prior to intending to commence business, a completed license application packet and director packet will need to be submitted to Business Services.  Applications are taken by appointment only, Tuesday through Thursday.
