Private-Public Partnership Results In New Housing Option For Seniors

Valley seniors now have another housing option with the opening of the new Bonanza Pines III apartment complex. A number of city officials including Mayor Oscar B. Goodman and Mayor Pro Tem Gary Reese celebrated the opening of the complex, which provides affordable housing for low-income seniors.

Located at 4170 E. Bonanza Road, the complex includes 62 one and two-bedroom apartments. Each unit is cable-ready and contains kitchens with basic appliances including a range, refrigerator and garbage disposal; ceiling fans; central heating and air conditioning; and a patio or balcony. Apartments are reserved for individuals earning less than $24,780 or couples earning less than $28,320.

The complex features a number of amenities including transportation services, a beauty salon, fitness center and a computer center with free Internet access.

Bonanza Pines III was developed through private and public investments, including those provided by National Equity Fund, Nevada H.A. N.D., Inc., the Nevada Housing Division, Wells Fargo Bank and the city of Las Vegas, which awarded the development nearly $1.2 million in HOME/LIHT Funds.

The City Council has made affordable housing a priority and has worked with local organizations throughout the year to develop new options for residents. This priority became all the more important with the sharp rise in housing prices. Earlier this year, the city unanimously approved plans for seven new, affordable homes on the city’s west side, to be developed by Habitat for Humanity.
