Ring In The New Year Safely

Ringing in the new year can be exciting, but it can also be a potentially dangerous time as well. By following a few simple tips, you can ensure that you start the new year off in a safe and healthy manner.

• Consider enjoying non-alcoholic beverages such as cider. If you do drink alcohol, know your limits.
• Avoid driving if possible. New Year's Eve is known for an increased number of people driving under the influence.
• Use free ride home services provided by local cab organizations.
• If you are hosting a party, don’t let your guests drive when they are intoxicated. Arrange for cab service or provide a place for guests to stay overnight.
• Make sure to arrange for a designated driver, or another safe form of transportation, before going out on New Year's Eve.
• Look out for others. When out at New Year's Eve events, make sure that others are also acting safely.
• Traveling in groups is encouraged, especially for women, when going out to parties on New Year's Eve.
• Consult with local media before heading out for any road closures.
• Be aware of surroundings. By being vigilant of what's going on around you, individuals can more easily recognize a dangerous situation and begin taking any preventive measures.
• Do not use fireworks. Fireworks are not legal in Clark County on New Year’s Eve.
• Use the Citizens Area Transit bus service to get around town. From 6 p.m. on New Year’s Eve to 6 p.m. on New Year’s Day, the transit provider offers free rides. For more information on route changes due to road closures, visit www.catride.com .
