City Kicks Off Improvements For New Entertainment District

Later this month, city officials will help kick off a project that will create a new entertainment district downtown. The Fremont East Entertainment District will feature comedy clubs, non-gaming blues and jazz nightclubs, and other musical entertainment venues. The new district is located on Fremont Street between Las Vegas Boulevard and Eighth Street.

The area will undergo a major renovation which will begin at the end of this month. This facelift will include the installation of pedestrian-friendly streets, landscaping, neon signage and bronze medallions honoring the individuals and events that have shaped Las Vegas. The $5.5 million redevelopment project is being financed through a public-private partnership between the city of Las Vegas and Fremont East property owners.

The new district is adjacent to the Fremont Street Experience and within minutes of many downtown entertainment venues and restaurants. The city, along with area property owners, hopes that the improvements and favorable business incentives will entice more entertainment venues to choose downtown Las Vegas as their new homes. Incentives for businesses looking to relocate to the area include a reduced Tavern Limited License fee and the Entertainment District Visual Improvement Program, which offers a rebate of up to a maximum of $95,000 for any qualified exterior improvement costs.

The improvement project is expected to be complete in late 2007. For more information on the Fremont East Entertainment District, visit the project Web page.
