Primary Election Set For Tuesday, April 3

The Primary Election is scheduled for Tuesday, April 3, with early voting planned for Saturday, March 17, through Friday, March 30. Early voting is provided at a number of locations throughout the city including the City Clerk’s Office at City Hall, located at 400 Stewart Ave., and the Meadows Mall, located at 4300 Meadows Lane. Two additional neighborhood locations such as grocery stores are offered on each day of early voting.
During early voting and on Election Day, all city voters can vote for mayor and municipal judge for Department 6. Residents living in Wards 1, 3 and 5 can vote for a City Council candidate who would represent their areas.
Every active registered voter in the city of Las Vegas will be sent a sample ballot before early voting begins. Voting will be easier and faster for everyone if sample ballots are studied and marked prior to voting.
Election results can be seen on KCLV-TV Channel 2 beginning at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 3.
According to the Las Vegas City Charter, if one candidate receives more than a majority of votes during the Primary Election, he or she must be declared elected. No General City Election would be held for that office. However, if no candidate receives that majority in the primary, the names of the two candidates receiving the highest number of votes are placed on the ballot for the General Election. The General Election is scheduled for June 5 and residents have until 9 p.m. on May 15 to register to vote.
Additional information on the upcoming election can be found on the Election 2007 Web site or by contacting the Las Vegas City Clerk at 229-6311, TTY 386-9108.
