Downtown Entertainment District Becomes The Place To Be In Las Vegas

The Fremont East District is quickly becoming the place to be in Las Vegas. The new district, located on Fremont Street from Las Vegas Boulevard to 8th Street, features comedy clubs, non-gaming blues and jazz nightclubs and other musical entertainment venues, with more opening each month.
Just recently, three new clubs have opened. The Griffin, located at 511 Fremont Street and the Downtown Cocktail Room, located at 111 Las Vegas Boulevard, are the newest additions to the already exciting lineup that includes Beauty Bar, Hennessey’s Tavern and Take 1 Nightclub. The newest landmark in the area is a large pint glass housed above Hennessey’s Tavern, at 425 Fremont Street. Within the large pint glass is a jazz lounge and live music venue. For a complete list of entertainment options, please visit the entertainment district Web Page.
Interest in the entertainment district continues to grow as other clubs see and feel the excitement downtown. The city of Las Vegas is currently working with three more nightclubs that plan to move into the Fremont East District over the coming months.
In addition to the new tenants, the area is also in the midst of a major renovation that began in January. This facelift includes the installation of pedestrian-friendly streets, landscaping, neon signage and bronze medallions honoring the individuals and events that have shaped Las Vegas. The $5.5 million redevelopment project is being financed through a public-private partnership between the city of Las Vegas and Fremont East property owners. The improvement project is expected to be completed later this year.
The new district is just east of the Fremont Street Experience and within minutes of many downtown entertainment venues and restaurants. The city, along with area property owners, hopes that the improvements and favorable business incentives will entice more entertainment venues to choose downtown Las Vegas as their new homes. Incentives for businesses looking to relocate to the area include a reduced Tavern Limited License fee and the Entertainment District Visual Improvement Program, which offers a rebate of up to a maximum of $95,000 for any qualified exterior improvement costs.
