Helldorado Days Returns With A Bang

Helldorado days are just around the corner so put on your cowboy boots and hat and get ready for some old fashioned fun. This year’s events will include the Helldorado Parade, a Whiskerino contest, a carnival, western village and more.
In 2005, after seven years of absence, the time-honored Helldorado Days tradition was resurrected in celebration of the city’s Centennial. Based on its success, organizers vowed to keep up the tradition. What began as a tool in 1935 to bring tourists to town following the completion of construction on Hoover Dam evolved into a celebrated event that united locals with community spirit and raised money for local charities. In its heyday, Helldorado was centered on Western themed events such as the Kangaroo Court, Old Timers Parade, Rodeo, Whiskerino Contest, Beauty Parade and Children's Parade.
This year’s festivities promise to be just as fun. The Helldorado Parade returns at 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 19, in downtown Las Vegas. Dozens of floats, marching bands, classic cars and more will line the streets of downtown to join in the fun. The ninth annual Cultural History Fair will also take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Old Mormon Fort, located at 500 E. Washington Ave. The fair will include exhibits and demonstrations by at least 30 local environmental, preservation and archeological organizations.
