Holiday Happenings

Join In The Fun Holiday Activities Planned By The City

The busy holiday season is just about here. Make sure to save some time in your busy schedule to participate in one of the many holiday events and activities planned by the city of Las Vegas. From craft workshops for the little ones to a turkey leftover luncheon for seniors, everyone can have a fun time this holiday season. In addition, don’t forget to take advantage of the many planned holiday track breaks. Registration begins soon.

For a full list of classes and activities planned for November and December, call any of the facilities below or (702) 229-6297. Centers will be closed Nov. 12, 22-23 and Dec. 25 for the holidays. Most activities require advance registration.

Family Activities

Free Movie in the Park (all ages)
Friday, Nov. 16, 6:30 p.m. pre-movie activity, 7 p.m. movie
Cimarron Rose Community Center, 5591 N. Cimarron Road, (702) 229-1607.
Bring lawn chairs and/or blankets to enjoy “the Nightmare Before Christmas” movie. Dress for the weather. Refreshments will be available for purchase. Event canceled in case of inclement weather.

Letters to Santa (all ages)
Nov. 28 through Dec. 9
Fee: $1 per letter
Veterans Memorial Leisure Services Center, 101 North Pavilion Center Drive, (702) 229-1100.
Complete an information form available at the front desk and have your child write a letter to Santa. Deliver both to Santa’s mailbox at the center by Dec. 9, and your child will receive a personalized letter from Santa in time for Christmas.

Holiday Craft Show (all ages)
Saturday, Dec. 1, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Free admission for shoppers; vendors $15 per table, $20 with electricity
Mirabelli Community Center, 6200 Hargrove Ave., (702) 229-6359.
All crafts are handmade with nothing priced over $35. Vendors call in advance to reserve space.

Christmas Make and Take Workshop (ages 3 - adult)
Friday, Dec. 7, 6:30 to 8 p.m. Register early. Space is limited.
Fee: $12
Becker Community School, 9110 Hillpointe Road, (702) 229-2482.
Create holiday crafts and memories that last. A special guest will appear for family pictures.

Holiday Craft Express Workshop (ages 3 - adult)
Saturday, Dec. 8, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Register at least one week in advance.
Fee: $3 for one craft; $20 for unlimited crafts

You and your child create crafts nice enough to give as gifts for your special family and friends.

Make It And Take It Fun Family Workshop (all ages)
Wednesday, Dec. 12, 6:30 to 8 p.m. Advance registration required.
Fee: $5 per family, includes supplies and light refreshments
Centennial Hills Community Room, inside Centennial Hills Community Center, 6601 W. Buffalo Drive

Youth and Teen Activities

Turkey Centerpiece And Pilgrim Puppet Workshop (ages 2 - 7)
Friday, Nov. 16, 6 to 7 p.m. Register early. Space is limited.
Fee: $12
Becker Community School, 9110 Hillpointe Road, (702) 229-2482.
Children will gobble up turkey cookies, make a pilgrim puppet and a turkey centerpiece.

Free Gobble Games (ages 2 - 12)
Saturday, Nov. 17, 1 to 3 p.m.
Clark Community School, 3074 Arville St., (702) 365-9272.
Children have fun competing for prizes and gifts to make Thanksgiving even more special.

Stuffed Crispy Rice Turkey Workshop (ages 3 - 5)
Wednesday, Nov. 21, 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Register at least one week in advance.
Fee: $8
Cimarron Rose Community Center, 5591 N. Cimarron Road, (702) 229-1607.
Children will sculpt and stuff a crispie rice turkey that will be the hit of your holiday table.

Breakfast with Santa (ages 1 - 12)
Saturday, Dec. 8, 9 to 10 a.m.
Fee: $7

Enjoy a continental breakfast with Santa and celebrate the season. Pre-registration is required.

Christmas Workshop (ages 3 - 6)
Wednesday, Dec. 12, 5 to 6 p.m.
Fee: $7

Children make a gift for that special someone. Pre-registration is required.

Year-End Party (ages 11 - 14)
Friday, Dec. 14, 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Fee: $3 in advance, $5 at the door

Young Adult and Adult Classes

Crafty Creations Workshop (adults)

Bring your paper trimmer, scissors and adhesive to make festive 6” x 6” chipboard albums to celebrate the season. Pre-registration is required.

Senior Activities
Senior activities require a $2 annual membership to city of Las Vegas Senior Citizen Programs.

Turkey Leftovers Potluck (ages 50+)
Monday, Nov. 26, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Advance registration required.
Fee: Free with a dish to share.
Las Vegas Senior Center, 451 E. Bonanza Road, (702) 229-6454.
Running out of ideas for what to do with leftover turkey, stuffing or mashed potatoes? Bring a dish made from your leftovers and a copy of the recipe. Enjoy lunch and receive recipes of new ideas. Center will provide turkey pot pie. Register in advance what dish you will bring.

Free Winter Wonderland (ages 50+)
Thursday, Nov. 29, 12:30 p.m.
East Las Vegas Community Senior Center, 250 N. Eastern Ave., (702) 229-1515.
Help decorate the center. Make snowmen, decorate gingerbread houses, sing carols, eat homemade cookies and drink hot chocolate. Get into the holiday spirit!

7th Annual Northwest Senior Center Holiday Party (ages 50+)
Tuesday, Dec. 4, noon. Advance ticket purchase required. Tickets on sale Nov. 1.
Fee: $7

Party will be hosted by and held at the Santa Fe Station, across the street from the center.

Gingerbread House Contest (ages 50+)
Thursday, Dec. 6, 1 to 3 p.m. Advance reservation required.
Fee: $2

Form your team of four enthusiastic friends and register today for a great afternoon of fun competing in the annual decorating contest. Each team will be given gingerbread, frosting, candies, a base and pastry bag. You provide the expertise and creativity to make the best gingerbread house ever!
