Improvement Projects Begin At Three Parks

Three popular city of Las Vegas parks will soon get facelifts. Construction has already begun at Jaycee park and will soon begin at Lorenzi and Freedom parks.

Jaycee Park, located at the corner of St. Louis and Eastern avenues, is currently closed as crews have begun a $10 million renovation project that will add a new lighted soccer field and parking lot, a playground area and a small water feature to the 10-acre park. Other improvements include expanding the dog park and reconfiguring pathways, upgrading pathway and security lighting, installing shade structures, reducing unused turf areas and adding native plantings. The improvement project will take approximately 12 months to complete.

In March, the east portion of Lorenzi Park, located at Washington Avenue and Twin Lakes Drive, will close for a complete renovation. The pond, Lorenzi Adaptive Center, Derfelt Senior Center, Nevada History Museum and the Garden Club will remain open during construction. Construction is expected to last one year.

The closure of Freedom Park in late spring will also allow for a complete renovation. The little league fields on the northeast side of the park will remain open, as will the Carlos L. Martinez and Darrio J. Hall Family Pool at Freedom Park. Construction is expected to last 18 months.

There are numerous other parks throughout the city that will still be available for activities. The online park finder can help you find other options in the city using search criteria such as location or desired features.
