Mayor’s Walk

Residents are invited to join Las Vegas Mayor Oscar B. Goodman in his quest to increase the livability of our great city at the second annual Get Movin’ with Mayor Oscar B. Goodman Healthy Lifestyle Walk on Saturday, May 17, at 8 a.m. at the Charlie Kellogg and Joe Zaher Sports Complex located at 7901 West Washington Ave. Participants can start their day with an invigorating one or two mile walk and stay for a fun day in the park at the Sports Fest.

The mayor continues to encourage everyone to learn about the importance of diet and exercise and to take advantage of the many recreational opportunities offered by the city, through the Mayor’s Healthy Lifestyle Initiative. The mayor recently lost 10 pounds as part of the Feel Great in 08’ Health Fair challenge.

The Mayor's Healthy Lifestyle Initiative, which can be found along with other healthy tips at http://www.gethealthylasvegas.org/, consists of a three-point plan:

Get Smart: Diet and nutrition are essential components to a healthy lifestyle and quality of life. Educate our citizens about proper diets.

Get Up: Sedentary activities increase the risk of heart disease, stroke and obesity. Educate the citizenry on importance of a healthy, active lifestyle.

Get Out: The mayor and City Council are supportive of parks and recreation amenities and are committed to providing quality facilities in the city of Las Vegas. Identify recreation center, parks and trails near you.

The city of Las Vegas has many leisure service facilities that offer a wide range of activities, from cultural performances, sports leagues and children’s day camps to Corporate Challenge, the largest amateur athletic competition in the state. We encourage you to visit our wonderful facilities, and along the way become healthier and happier.
