New KCLV Special Focuses On Las Vegas Gangs
In some form or fashion, gang violence touches every community and Las Vegas is not immune. To help bring attention to the issue and educate the public on gang prevention and intervention, KCLV Channel 2 created a 30-minute special titled “Las Vegas Gangs: Not Our Kids!” Hosted by Nancy Byrne, the show is a must see for parents, families and educators.
There are more than 300 gangs represented in and around Las Vegas. Law enforcement agencies, school officials, city leaders and various groups and organizations have been working hard to stop gang violence through intervention and prevention. Viewers will get an up close look at just how prevalent the problem is by going on a ride along with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Special Gang Unit.
The program also touches on several programs that help educate youth and their parents about the realities of gang life. One young man will be featured who spent his teen years involved in gangs but has since broken free and become a successful music producer. Viewers will also learn how they can help stop the violence in our community. The city has compiled a list of gang resources that can help parents, children and other agencies in the fight against gangs.
