Stay Safe This Halloween

Halloween is full of tricks and treats, and with goblins and witches out on the prowl, it’s a good idea to revisit some basic safety tips for the holiday.
Costumes
- Use face paint rather than a mask. If you or your child wear a mask, make sure the eye holes are large enough to see through clearly.
- Wear light-colored or reflective materials.
- If a costume includes a prop such as a sword, make sure it is made of soft material.
- Make sure there is nothing hanging from a costume.
- Ensure that costumes are made from fire proof materials.
Trick or Treating
- Walk on sidewalks, not in the street and cross the street only at corners. Look both ways before crossing the street.
- Always use a flashlight to help you spot obstacles.
- Accept treats at the door only. Do not go into someone’s home to receive a treat.
- Always trick or treat with groups and make sure an adult accompanies the group.
- Visit only those homes that have porch lights on.
- Be cautious of strangers.
Back at Home
- Make sure adults inspect treats before they are eaten.
- Never eat unwrapped candy, open candy or fruit.
