David W. Steinman Sworn In To Represent Ward 4

At its Jan. 7 meeting, Mayor Oscar B. Goodman swore in David W. Steinman to serve as interim councilman for Ward 4. The City Council voted to place him as a “caretaker” of the post until the city’s municipal elections conclude this year. He replaces Larry Brown who was elected to the County Commission. Councilman Steinman has said he does not plan to run for the open seat.

Although retired, Councilman Steinman has served on the Las Vegas Planning Commission since 2004. Originally from Ohio, he also served as City Councilman and Planning Commissioner in Worthington, Ohio.

Councilman Steinman has more than 40 years of experience in real estate financing and banking, and has held numerous management positions with several corporations before his retirement, including Bank America Corporation, Bank One, Lincoln National Life Insurance Company and Mellon Bank. He served eight years on the Board of Governors of the Mortgage Bankers Association of America, before retiring from the post in 2002.

Councilman Steinman has been very active in the Las Vegas community since moving to Las Vegas in 1999. He completed the city of Las Vegas Citizen’s Academy and previously served as chairman of the Centennial Hills Architectural Review Committee. He has also been very active in the Sun City Summerlin neighborhood where he lives, serving as president of the homeowners association in 2006 and as chief of the Sun City Security Patrol. He currently serves as the vice president of the board of directors and chairman of the Architectural Review Committee of Sun City.

The City Council has appointed Michael E. Buckley to fill Councilman Steinman’s empty seat on the Planning Commission. Buckley previously sat on the Planning Commission from 1994 to 2002.
