New Trail Project In Northwest Las Vegas Underway

The city provides numerous parks, recreation centers, pools and programs to help residents and visitors get healthy and stay fit. The city is continuing this effort by adding a new trail system that will provide additional amenities for walkers, runners and bikers. Construction is now underway on the Rampart Trail and the Angel Park Trailhead, which is expected to be complete in 12 months.
This three-phase trail project will begin at the city of Las Vegas Bruce Trent Park on Vegas Drive. The trail will continue to the south adjacent to Durango Drive to tie into the trailhead phase of the project that will be constructed on the west side of Durango at Westcliff Drive. The trail will continue from the trailhead to the south and will wrap around the city’s Angel Park and then head westerly to cross Rampart Boulevard and continue along the south side of the Angel Park Golf Course and eventually terminate at Alta Drive.
The trail will accommodate pedestrians, bicyclists and other modes of non-motorized travel. The landscaped trail will include benches, trash cans, dog waste stations, fencing and trail lighting. A pedestrian bridge will be installed across the wash area on the golf course. As part of the Angel Park Trailhead, shade structures and playground equipment will be installed.
Funding for this $4 million trail project is provided by the Bureau of Land Management through the sale of public lands as authorized by the Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act (SNPLMA). Under the SNPLMA, the sale of federal lands in southern Nevada stays locally to build parks or other recreational facilities. The city’s Planning and Development Department developed the trail concept and secured federal funds for the construction.
