Popular Eastside Park Re-opens

Residents on the east side of the valley will be happy their old park is back, but it will be with a new name and new amenities. Jaycee Park, located at the corner of St. Louis and Eastern Avenues, has been closed for approximately 12 months to undergo a $10 million renovation project.
The park officially re-opens with a celebration on Monday, Feb. 23 at 2:30 p.m. During its closure, the Las Vegas City Council voted to re-name the park after a long-time fixture in the community, the late Justice Myron E. Leavitt. Justice Leavitt, who lived his entire life in the area near the park, held family events and coached sports such as baseball and Pop Warner football at the park. The official name of the park is now Justice Myron E. Leavitt Family Park.
The renovation project added a new lighted, artificial turf soccer field, expanded parking lot, a playground area and a small water feature to the 18-acre park. Other improvements included expanding the dog park and reconfiguring pathways, upgrading pathway and security lighting, installing shade structures, renovating the bocce and horseshoe areas, reducing unused turf areas and adding native plantings.
Funding for this project was provided by the Bureau of Land Management through the sale of public lands as authorized by the Southern Nevada Public Lands Management Act.
