Early Voting For The City Of Las Vegas Municipal Primary Election Begins Saturday, March 21

Early voting for the Las Vegas Municipal Primary Election begins Saturday, March 21, and ends Friday, April 3. Las Vegas registered voters may vote at any of the convenient early voting sites or on Election Day, Tuesday, April 7, at their polling places.

Sample ballots, which were mailed to registered voters last week, have the dates and times of early voting locations at the Las Vegas City Clerk’s office, the Meadows Mall and convenient neighborhood locations.

During early voting and on Election Day, all city voters can vote for a Municipal Court judge for Department 1. Two city council seats are also on the ballot. Registered voters living in Wards 4 and 6 can vote for a City Council candidate who would represent their area respectively.

Every vote counts because some seats may be decided in the Primary Election. According to the Las Vegas City Charter, if one candidate receives more than a majority of votes during the Primary Election, he or she must be declared elected. No General City Election would be held for that office.

However, if no candidate receives that majority in the primary, the names of the two candidates receiving the highest number of votes are placed on the ballot for the General Election. The General Election is scheduled for June 2.

A complete listing of early vote locations, dates and times is available in your sample ballot, on the city of Las Vegas Election Web site at http://www.lasvegasnevada.gov/Election2009 or by contacting the Las Vegas City Clerk at 229-6311, TTY 386-9108.
