City Council And Municipal Court Judge Races Decided In Primary Election

The city’s Primary Election, which took place on April 7, saw winners in two races. Ward 6 Councilman Steven D. Ross was re-elected, and Municipal Court Judge Cynthia Leung, who was appointed to the Department One seat in February 2008, also garnered enough votes to win the seat outright.

Three other races, those for City Council Ward 2 and Municipal Court judges for departments 4 and 6, garnered no opponents so those individuals were declared elected and did not appear on the ballot for the Primary Election.

All five individuals will be sworn in at the May 6 City Council meeting.

The race for Ward 4 councilman, which was left vacant when Larry Brown was elected to the Clark County Commission, was narrowed to two individuals during the Primary Election. This race will appear on the ballot for the General Election, which is scheduled for Tuesday, June 2.

There is still time to register for the General Election. In person voter registration for the General Election will take place in the City Clerk’s office at the following dates and times.

Sunday, May 3, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Monday, May 4 through Thursday, May 7, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Friday, May 8 through Tuesday, May 12, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The City Clerk’s office is located on the first floor of City Hall, 400 Stewart Ave. For further information, visit www.lasvegasnevada.gov/election2009.
