National Night Out Events Scheduled For Tuesday, Aug. 3
Residents Are Encouraged To Attend Neighborhood Events
I invite you to the Back-to-School & National Night Out Celebration in the Clark High School cafeteria at 4291 Pennwood Ave. from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3. Free school supplies for children ages 5 to 16, Strengthening Families Tool Kits from Sesame Workshop Scholastic Books, and light refreshments will be distributed while supplies last. Community vendors and low-cost children's vaccinations will be available. A child's shot records must be brought to the event in order to take advantage of available vaccinations. This event is sponsored by K.E.E.N., the national Parent Teacher Association (PTA) Urban Family Engagement Initiative, Target, Terrible Herbst Oil Company, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and me. Representatives from local law enforcement agencies, including high-ranking Metro Police officials and the Las Vegas City Marshals, as well as various departments of the city of Las Vegas, will be on hand to answer questions and provide helpful information. The national PTA has selected Las Vegas and this event to kick off its Urban Family Engagement Initiative, which is a nationwide program to encourage meaningful parent involvement programs and policies. In its 27th year, National Night Out is a nationwide effort to heighten crime prevention awareness, to generate support for local anti-crime programs and to strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships. Two other neighborhoods in Ward 1 have organized National Night Out celebrations for Aug. 3. The Meadows Mobile Home Park at 2900 S. Valley View Blvd. will host a celebration from 5 to 10 a.m. Sunrise Gardens Apartments at 3601 El Conlon Ave. will celebrate from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
