I hope you are all enjoying the start of the new school year! I wanted to make you aware of several upcoming opportunities in our ward for people of all ages.
On Friday, Sept. 17, from 8:30 to 10 a.m., Mayor Oscar B. Goodman will be holding his Coffee with the Mayor event at Patricia's Soul Food Cafe at 1100 N. Martin Luther King Blvd. This month's Coffee With The Mayor is taking place in Ward 5, and I am planning to join the mayor for this event. I urge those of you who would like to meet and converse with the mayor and me in a casual setting to join us.
Lastly, now through Sept. 30, the 100 Black Men of Las Vegas, Inc. are looking for 20 entertainment acts to audition for their "Shots 4 Tots" talent show. Entertainment acts include but limited to dance groups, cheerleading groups, singing groups, and other groups in grades K-5th who are interested in performing in a local talent contest. On Oct. 2, auditions will be held at Doolittle Community Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The top five acts will be selected to showcase their talent at the free kick off "Shots 4 Tots" event from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 16, at Sammy Davis Jr. Plaza. Music will be provided by the world's youngest DJ, 6-year-old DJ BabyChino. Staff from my office will be part of the selection committee. The auditions and "Shots 4 Tots" event are being held in Ward 5.
Parents of those performers interested in auditioning should send an email to Naomi Lewis at email@example.com, who will provide you with a registration form.
"Shots 4 Tots" is an initiative with the Southern Nevada Health District's Immunization Program that was designed to increase the immunization rates of Southern Nevada's Children. In partnership with the United Way of Southern Nevada and the 100 Black Men of Las Vegas, Inc., the Southern Nevada Health District will work to ensure all children of Southern Nevada are protected and strong to fight the 13 preventable diseases that target our precious youth.
