Free Solar Hot Water System Customer Workshop June 2
NV Energy and Southwest Gas are hosting a free workshop Thursday, June 2, to provide information about incentive programs they offer utility customers who may want to install solar hot water systems. Eligible contractors and vendors also will be in attendance to provide helpful information. For the convenience of the public, two identical presentations on the benefits of a solar hot water system will be made: 6:30-7 p.m. and 7:15-7:45 p.m. on the second floor of the UNLV Student Union at 4505 S. Maryland Parkway. The vendor area will be open 6-8 p.m. with contractors and representatives from both utility companies. Parking will be available in front of the Student Union.

2nd Annual Car Show to Benefit Scholarships June 4
Customs, Classics, All Riding for Scholarships (CCARS) Car Show
The National Latino Peace Officers Association (NLPOA) and the Southern Nevada Hispanic Employment Program (SNHEP) Youth Council are proud to present the 2nd Annual Customs, Classics, All Riding for Scholarships (CCARS) Car Show scholarship fundraiser to be held, Saturday, June 4, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 416 N. 7th St. in fabulous downtown Las Vegas (between Bonanza Road and Stewart Avenue). The show is open to the public with free admission and fun for the entire family, including live entertainment, and vendors of merchandise, food and beverages.
Please join me and Ward 1 Councilwoman Lois Tarkanian for opening ceremonies at 10 a.m. and to enjoy the show. I will present trophy awards to the winners at 5 p.m.
This scholarship fundraiser is especially important, due to our economic downturn, and will benefit local college students pursuing higher education. The area Youth Council will be collecting “community change” for education! Visit their concession stand to deposit your change and help fill a five-gallon water bottle with community pocket change for education. ‘Smokey Bear & Woodsy Owl: Home Sweet Home’ Grand Opening Event June 4 At Lied Discovery Children’s Museum
Lied Discovery Children’s Museum’s featured summer exhibition, “Smokey Bear & Woodsy Owl: Home Sweet Home,” will make its debut in the museum’s Cultural Gallery at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 4.
In addition to the exhibition, the grand-opening event will feature demonstrations and information on fire and camping safety, boating and water safety, botany, archaeology, free giveaways and more. Officials and fire and law enforcement vehicles from the Southern Nevada Agency Partnership (SNAP) will be at the museum, including the Bureau of Land Management, National Park Service, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and U.S. Forest Service. The exhibition, which explores the outdoors and our natural resources, was developed by the Betty Brinn Children’s Museum in collaboration with the U.S. Forest Service.

Teacher Appreciation Walk
Show your support for area teachers by joining me at the inaugural Clark County Teacher Appreciation 5k run/walk on June 11. The event, which is sponsored by OneVillage, will begin at 7 a.m. at Findlay Chevrolet, located at the 215 and Rainbow Boulevard in the southwest part of the city. The cost will be $20 per person until the day of the run. A panel of teachers will decide how best to use the funds raised to support teaching and learning in our schools.
