University of Phoenix To Present $5,000 To Andre Agassi Clubhouse July 13
Ward 5 Councilman Ricki Y. Barlow Will Help Present 200 Books
More than 70 students from the Andre Agassi Clubhouse will be on hand when the University of Phoenix makes a $5,000 donation to the center at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 13, in the library of the Boys & Girls Club center located at 800 N. Martin Luther King Blvd. I will take part in the check presentation as well as help present more than 200 books to the center staff. University Territory Vice President for Nevada and Idaho Kathy Gamboa and Dr. Carol Foster, campus college chair from the College of Education, also will be present for the event.
"The staff at the University of Phoenix wanted to assist Councilman Barlow in helping improve the lives of our youth," said Gamboa. "The Andre Agassi Clubhouse is such an important part of our community and we are honored to make this donation to help make a difference."
I am truly grateful to the University of Phoenix for making a contribution and assisting me in my efforts to promote the importance of higher education to our youth. Along with the building blocks the youth are learning at the Andre Agassi Clubhouse, pursuing a higher education is critical to their development.

Development Services Center Dedication July 18
Tours, New Help Desk and Changes To Development Process Make Doing Business Easier
You are invited to join Mayor Carolyn G. Goodman, other dignitaries and me to officially dedicate the city of Las Vegas Development Services Center (DSC) at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, July 18. The building is located at 333 N. Rancho Drive. At the event, staff will offer tours and unveil a new help desk that will assist customers with directions and general information how to accomplish what they need within the DSC.
Earlier this year, several city departments relocated to the building, providing a “one-stop shop” for the development community. The Planning Department, Building & Safety Department, City Engineer, Public Works and Operations & Maintenance administrations, Fire Prevention and Land Development Division of the Public Works Department are all located in the building. Business Licensing will be rounding out the services offered when the department moves into the building later this year. Regular hours of operation are 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, excluding holidays. More information on the development services process, and its continuing improvements, can be found online.
