From the Desk of Councilman Barlow
In keeping my commitment to update you on the situation to reopen and beautify F Street, I am bringing you the latest developments. So far, I’ve been pleased with the progress and especially with the community’s involvement in this effort to reconnect F Street.
I want to inform you about two items regarding F Street that will be heard on September 21, 2011. The first is item #5, which will be heard during the 8:30 a.m. Redevelopment Agency (RDA) meeting. The second item is #65 and will be heard during the City Council meeting, which begins at 9:00 a.m. in the Council Chambers.
These are companion items that allow for the transfer of $2.5 million from the RDA to fund the design and public outreach to reopen F Street. This design work and public outreach have been going on for about a year-and-a-half at this stage, so the items on Wednesday's agendas are really more of a formality.
The Nevada Legislature in 2009 passed Assembly Bill 304. It required the city of Las Vegas to contract for the design of the project to reopen F Street using $2.5 million in funds from the RDA. This resolution before the City Council and the RDA authorizes the transfer of the RDA funds to the city for this purpose. The proceedings can be viewed on the city's TV station, KCLV Channel 2, or live on the city’s website or online at http://www.kclv.tv/.
I know how important this project is to the community and especially to the residents who call Ward 5 home, so I will continue to ensure that you get the very latest developments as they become available. I would like to ask that you please forward this letter accordingly to all interested parties who may not have received this notification or do not have access to the Internet.
Ricki Y. Barlow
City of Las Vegas Councilman
