Fremont East Entertainment District Community Meeting
Tuesday, Sept. 27, 5:30 to 7 p.m.
El Cortez Hotel & Casino, 600 E. Fremont St.
Founder's Room, second floor.
This is a community meeting for businesses, residents, and property owners within the Fremont East Entertainment District (FEED) to discuss proposed changes to the noise ordinance. In summary, the proposed ordinance changes address the following:
  • Providing a continuing exemption to the noise ordinance for events that take place in fully enclosed buildings.
  • Limiting hours to events that take place outdoors.
  • Providing exemptions for special events, but at the same applying conditions to the special use permit relating to noise mitigation.

Support the Historic Westside School Plan Sept. 28
The city of Las Vegas is applying for a Certificate of Appropriateness from the city's Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) to rehabilitate the Historic Westside School. At 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28, at the Historic Fifth Street School, the HPC will hear a presentation from KME Architects regarding recommendations for the building's use, physical rehabilitation of the historic buildings, and site improvements. If the application is approved, the city will move forward with securing funding to implement the master plan. The public is encouraged to attend the meeting. Ward 5 Neighborhood Meeting
A neighborhood meeting will be held Wednesday, Sept. 28, at 6 p.m. in the multipurpose room of Doris Reed Elementary School, 2501 Winwood St., regarding a proposed apartment complex at Michael Way and Cheyenne Avenue.  Area residents are invited to express their thoughts, comments and/or concerns regarding the proposed development before the matter comes before a vote of the City Council again.

Learn about the planned 2012 Kianga Isoke Palacio Park at Doolittle Complex expansion, F Street progress, Republic Services, the Ward 5 master plan, a proposed expansion of the redevelopment area, and more.

Ward 5 Clean and Green Make a Difference Day Recycling Event
Saturday, Oct. 22, from 8 a.m. to noon
Lorenzi Park, 3333 W. Washington Ave. 
Republic Services and The Blind Center will be present to collect wastes such as bulk items, electronic items, hazardous materials (battery, oil, paints) and any recyclable items you may have. This is a continuation of our Ward 5 Clean and Green Campaign that began this summer.

Historic Westside School Community Meeting
Tuesday, Oct. 25, 5:30 p.m.
Doolittle Community Center, 1950 N. J St.
Attend the presentation of the final master plan for the Historic Westside School property to see what the future has in store for this gateway to the Westside and how you can be involved.

Teen Town Hall
Wednesday, Oct. 26, 10 a.m.
Tune in to KCLV-TV 2 or watch online at 10 a.m. to see this Teen Town Hall live in City Council chambers. Councilman Barlow will discuss current events related to teen youth with invited school groups.
