ONGOING STORM DRAIN INSTALLATION PROJECT CLOSES EASTBOUND CHARLESTON BOULEVARD SUNDAY-THURSDAY NIGHTS FROM VISTA DRIVE TO HINSON STREET
As part of a $6.5 million storm drain project, Charleston Boulevard will close to all eastbound traffic from Vista Drive to Hinson Street from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday through Thursday for the next two months. There will be business access only and lane restrictions eastbound on Charleston between Decatur Boulevard and Vista Drive, and from Valley View Boulevard to Hinson Street. One lane will be open westbound on Charleston during the closure. Two lanes will be open in both directions for daytime and weekend use.
This closure is required to allow for the installation of a 19-foot-wide storm drain under Charleston. During the closure, eastbound traffic on Charleston will be detoured to Sahara Avenue at Decatur. From Sahara, motorists will be detoured east to Valley View and then north on Valley View to Charleston. Motorists should expect traffic delays as a result of the closure and are encouraged to avoid the area.
The construction work will continue weekly in order to have Charleston Boulevard open to traffic as soon as possible. The city of Las Vegas Public Works department is overseeing the project, which includes installing large box storm drains under Charleston Boulevard from Decatur Boulevard to Hinson Street. The project began in August of 2011 and is expected to take approximately one year. Las Vegas Paving Corporation is the contractor. G.C. Wallace, Inc. is the construction manager. Funding is provided by Clark County Regional Flood Control District.
