The Las Vegas-Clark County Library District and The Chuck Jones Experience at Circus Circus Las Vegas have teamed up to present “Love your Library? Tell a Friend!” It’s a library card sign-up campaign that begins Saturday, Dec. 1, and continues through Dec. 31. Just sign up for a free library card during December, or if you already have a library card, like LVCCLD on Facebook, and be automatically entered to earn a chance to win a framed Chuck Jones animation cel from The Chuck Jones Experience. Existing library cardholders will receive a 50% discount off general admission at The Chuck Jones Experience Dec. 1-March 15. For more details, go online.
ROCK 'N' ROLL LAS VEGAS MARATHON DEC. 2
The Zappos.com Rock 'n' Roll Las Vegas Marathon and Half Marathon benefiting the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America is scheduled this Sunday, Dec. 2. Most route roads are closing at 2 p.m. to vehicle traffic. However, a few portions of Las Vegas Boulevard will close earlier than 2 p.m., so please plan ahead by utilizing the following resources:
- Check the course map and road closure gridto see if you are affected.
- Find alternate access directions to major Strip and downtown hotels on the road closure website.
- View the interactive Google Map for help with alternate directions.
- Join in the the fun without having to run. Sign up on the website to volunteer.
- View Regional Transportation Commission detour routes.
- Line the route to cheer on runners as they accomplish their goals.
“A CHRISTMAS CAROL” HOLIDAY THEATER AT LOCAL LIBRARIES
The Las Vegas-Clark County Library District will host live theatrical performances of “A Christmas Carol” performed by the Hampstead Stage Company at five library branches in December. In this tale by Charles Dickens, the miser Ebenezer Scrooge learns the true meaning of Christmas through visits from the spirits of the season. Performances are free and open to the public. Children of all ages are welcome. Performances are scheduled:
- Wednesday, Dec. 5, at 10:30 a.m. at the West Las Vegas Library, 951 W. Lake Mead Blvd.;
- Wednesday, Dec. 5, at 1 p.m. at the Sunrise Library, 5400 Harris Ave.;
- Wednesday, Dec. 5, at 4:30 p.m. at the Summerlin Library, 1771 Inner Circle Drive;
- Friday, Dec. 7, at 4 p.m. at the Las Vegas Library, 833 Las Vegas Blvd. North; and
- Saturday, Dec. 8, at 10:30 a.m. at the Enterprise Library, 25 E. Shelbourne Ave.

DOLLAR GENERAL JOB FAIR DEC. 7
Dollar General will hold a job fair Friday, Dec. 7, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Foundation for an Independent Tomorrow (FIT) building at 1931 Stella Lake Drive. This job fair will employ folks in one of four Dollar General stores in the valley, including the new store under construction in Enterprise Park near Martin L. King Jr. Boulevard and Mt. Moriah. Nearly 50 retail positions will be available, including store manager, assistant store manager, perishables manager, food manager, non-food manager, shift manager, front-end lead and sales associates. Participants should bring resumes. Training will begin in January, with the new location scheduled to open the last week in January. WESTSIDE SCHOOL ALUMNI FOUNDATION DEC. 8 EVENT
The Westside School Alumni Foundation will hold its book launch and luncheon on Saturday, Dec. 8, at 11 a.m. at Nevada Partners, 710 W. Lake Mead Blvd. Come out to this historic, fun-filled event and meet some of the storytellers – the oldest is 97 years young! It’s an event not to be missed!
History unfolds in the never-before-told stories and unpublished photos in the book, “Westside School: Our School, Our Community, Our Time.” More than 90 alumni tell their stories of growing up in Las Vegas between1923 and 1967.
