Dec. 6, 2012

Please join me at the Lakes Festival of Lights Saturday, Dec. 8, from noon to 10 p.m. Bring the family to enjoy the singing, dancing, bands, celebrities, visit with Santa Claus, petting zoo, pony rides, arts and crafts show, car show, food vendors, exhibits and electric boat parade. I'll be the Grand Marshal for the boat parade! Admission is free. The festival is held at the intersection of Lake East Drive and Lake Sahara Drive, next to the Lake Town Center commercial plaza. The street will be blocked off and parking will be available in the Citibank parking lot a at 8725 W. Sahara Ave. For more information, please call 256-9998 or go online.

I hope you will join me and my family at the First Friday celebration downtown this Friday night, Dec. 7, 5 to 10 p.m. In addition to the art, music and festivities, there will be new attractions we’re anxious to check out.

The Chuck Jones Experience (new at Circus Circus) is debuting in the KidZone this month at 1213 Casino Center Blvd. Chuck Jones is best known for characters such as Bugs Bunny, Wiley Coyote, Pepe Le Pew, Elmer Fudd, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig and so many others. From there, we’ll check out the Winter Wonderland market area with artists and vendors selling things that would make great gifts, as well as snow, carriage rides, carolers and gift wrappers. Then we’re going to eat at the new BBQ Zone by the Third Street Stage, where Memphis Championship BBQ restaurants and Ben's BBQ will be joining forces in a huge 30-foot tent with an eatery area. We’re expecting amazing barbecue.

It sounds like it’s going to be bigger and better than ever! Maps, parking information and more details are available at
