REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY AND CITY COUNCIL MEETING FEB. 6
The Las Vegas Redevelopment Agency will meet at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, in Council Chambers on the second floor of City Hall, located at 495 S. Main St. The Las Vegas City Council will follow, starting at approximately 9 a.m. in Council Chambers. Council agenda items of particular interest to Ward 5 residents can be found here. HISTORIC WESTSIDE SCHOOL PROJECT
The City Council is to consider the site development review, general plan amendment, special use permit and zoning change approved by the Planning Commission in January at the Feb. 6 meeting during the afternoon session. The hazardous materials survey of the historic site is complete and extensive in detail. We have proposals to review for the feasibility of relocating the art tile panels, for historic paint color analysis, and for a Construction Manager At Risk. Preparation of an integrated master project schedule has begun.
LIBRARY DISTRICT CELEBRATES AFRICAN-AMERICAN HISTORY
The Las Vegas-Clark County Library District offers special programs throughout February at the West Las Vegas Library to celebrate the contributions African Americans have made to our community. See all the details here.
COFFEE WITH THE COUNCILMAN FEB. 7

BERKLEY SQUARE HISTORIC DISTRICT BANNERS UNVEILING FEB. 9
Join me to celebrate with the residents of Berkley Square the unveiling of 34 banners and two bronze plaques commemorating the designation of this first African-American housing subdivision on the National Register of Historic Places. We'll gather at noon Saturday, Feb. 9, at the corner of F Street and Leonard Avenue (note location change). Refreshments will be served, courtesy of the Delta Sigma Theta sorority. SENIOR APARTMENTS BUILDING DEDICATION FEB. 12
Join me, Frank Hawkins and community residents to celebrate the dedication of the Aldene Kline Barlow Senior Apartments at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12. Built in part with U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and Redevelopment Affordable Housing Set Aside funds, the apartments were developed by Frank Hawkins and the Community Development Programs Center of Nevada for low-income seniors. NEW FREE APP FOR iPHONE® USERS
The city of Las Vegas has launched an app for iPhone users who want to report a neighborhood problem or need assistance locating parking downtown. The new app, City of Las Vegas Mobile, is available for free at the App StoresSM. Citizens can report a problem in the Las Vegas city limits (such as graffiti, a pothole, out-of-service streetlight) check on available city-operated parking and get driving directions to that parking, and much more. FREE PERSONAL INCOME TAX FORM PREPARATION ASSISTANCE
Volunteers from AARP and the Internal Revenue Service Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) will offer residents free assistance with personal income tax form preparation and electronic filing at five city active adult and senior centers February-April 11. Income restrictions will apply to qualify for assistance. Advance appointments are required at all locations. See more details here.
