WARD 5 BACK-TO-SCHOOL FAIR AUG. 17
Join me Saturday, Aug. 17, for a back-to-school fair that begins in Lorenzi Park at 8 a.m. at Sammy Davis Jr. Festival Plaza, located at 720 Twin Lakes Drive. Those interested in free supplies and backpacks at the back-to-school fair should arrive by 7:30 a.m. to get a wristband, while supplies last. Participants are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item to donate to a local food pantry charity. Free immunization shots for children with shot records will be offered 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Sammy Davis Jr. Festival Plaza. See the flier.
LORENZI PARK REOPENING CELEBRATION AUG. 17
Join me on Saturday, Aug. 17, at 11 a.m. in the rose garden as we officially reopen the west side of Lorenzi Park to the public. The park is located at 3333 W. Washington Ave. at Twin Lakes Drive. A $30 million renovation has been completed at the 60-acre regional park. New amenities include a new splash pad, children’s play areas, picnic and shade structures, historic markers, as well as the return of the historic twin lakes and band shell. We will dedicate the renovated park at 11 a.m. with a flag ceremony at the gazebo in the rose garden at the northwest corner of the park. There also will be games, face-painting, music and food vendors at the park until 1 p.m. See the flier and news release for details.
CITY COUNCIL MEETING AUG. 21
The Las Vegas Redevelopment Agency will meet at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21, in Council Chambers on the second floor of City Hall, located at 495 S. Main St., followed immediately by the City Council meeting. Agenda items of particular interest to Ward 5 residents can be found here. The complete agenda is available here. MAKING GOOD HEALTH MY REALITY TOWN HALL
Mark your calendar on Saturday, Sept. 14, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for a Good Health Town Hall with Nevada Congressman Steven Horsford and Congresswoman Donna Christensen, chair of the Congressional Black Caucus Health Braintrust. The day will include free breakfast and lunch, free health screenings, a community health fair, entertainment for the whole family and an opportunity to learn about the Affordable Care Act and what it means for you.
