PROJECT NEON COMMUNITY MEETING DEC. 4
The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT), in partnership with the city of Las Vegas, will host a public information meeting regarding Project Neon Wednesday, Dec. 4, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Historic Fifth Street School, located at 401 S. Fourth St. Project Neon is a 3.7-mile transportation improvement project along I-15 from Sahara Avenue to U.S. 95. SENIOR CENTER HOLIDAY CRAFT SALE THURSDAY
Everyone is invited to shop at the Las Vegas Senior Center's 24th annual Holiday Handicraft Sale Thursday, Dec. 5, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The wide variety of crafts are handmade and include quilts, photo albums, crocheted and knitted items, ceramics, jewelry, holiday items and much more. WARD 5 BLUEGRASS IN THE PARK DEC. 8
I will host Bluegrass in the Park, Sunday, Dec. 8, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Lorenzi Park Lake band shell, located at 3333 W. Washington Ave. inside Lorenzi Park. I invite you to bring the entire family to this free event to enjoy the music of local bluegrass and acoustic bands. Bring chairs or blankets to be more comfortable. GRANT APPLICATION WORKSHOPS DEC. 11
The city of Las Vegas has opened applications for the Community Development Block Grants – Public Service, Housing Opportunities for Persons Living With AIDS (HOPWA) grants, and the Emergency Solutions Grant.
Based on City Council direction from last year, priority consideration and funding will be given to applications addressing one or more of the following:
- Homeless prevention/outreach, intervention services with a preference towards families with children, seniors, singles with non-custodial children, and single persons.
- Seniors with a focus on maintaining independence.
- Persons with special needs (Includes HOPWA).
- Youth programs that focus on academic skills and early-childhood development.
Three workshops to assist applicants applying for these grants will be held Wednesday, Dec. 11, at the Historic Fifth Street School, located at 401 S. Fourth St. in downtown Las Vegas.
1. First-time applicants 9:30 – 11 a.m.
2. First-time applicants 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
3. Returning CDBG applicants 2 – 3:30 p.m.
Agencies are encouraged to attend workshops and to RSVP by calling (702) 229-2330.
Applicants must be certified 501(c)(3) or 501(c) (4) non-profit organizations, and properly licensed by the city of Las Vegas Business License Department to perform services identified in application, at time of application submission. The application process will be online utilizing Zoomgrants. City staff will work with any agencies not proficient in Zoomgrants technology. The deadline for submitting completed applications is Jan. 8, 2014, at 3 p.m. PST. No applications will be accepted after this deadline.
