You’re invited to join me March 26 at 1:30 p.m. for the groundbreaking of the newest El Pollo Loco restaurant in Ward 5. We’ll gather at 1985 N. Martin Luther King Blvd., at the southwest corner of Lake Mead Boulevard, to celebrate this new opportunity for jobs for Ward 5 residents!

PARK GROUNDBREAKING MARCH 27!
Join me at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, March 27, for the groundbreaking of the remodel of Kianga Isoke Palacio Park at Doolittle Complex, 951 W. Lake Mead Blvd. The plans call for construction to begin March 31 to replace the current softball field with new shaded playground equipment, a splash pad, two 16-foot shade shelters and a 48-foot pavilion, two horseshoe pits, landscaping and plenty of open grassy space. The current restroom, walking path and exercise equipment will remain. During construction, the basketball courts, two baseball fields and all parking will remain open; the walking path, softball field, current playground equipment and exercise equipment area will be unavailable. Construction is scheduled for completion by the end of October 2014. 

SENIOR IDOL AUDITION PACKETS AVAILABLE NOW
Registration packets for Senior Idol 2014 auditions will be available at the Las Vegas Senior Center, 451 E. Bonanza Road, beginning Monday, March 24. The showcase will feature talented seniors age 50 or better in vocal, dance, comedy, magic, musical theater and variety acts. Completed registration packets for audition requests are due by 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 16. Auditions will be scheduled May 7-8. Call 702-229-6453 if you would like an audition packet mailed to you. The Senior Idol 2014 showcase will be held June 12 at 6 p.m. at the Charleston Heights Arts Center.  Save the date for this always-fabulous show!  Tickets will go on sale May 1.

CELEBRATING LIFE! 2014
Southern Nevada residents age 50 and better are invited to enter the annual Celebrating Life! juried fine art competition. Entry is free, limited to one work per artist. YOUNG MEN’S CONFERENCE APRIL 5
A young men’s conference, “Brothers in the Community Making it Happen…Get on the Bus,” is scheduled for Saturday, April 5, at the West Las Vegas Arts Center, located at 947 W. Lake Mead Blvd. The session runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is for ages 10-20. The event is free, but advanced registration is required. Those interested should call 702-229-4800.

The conference goal is to help young men to discover new ways to improve their lives through mentoring and dialogues led by community leaders.
