LAKE MEAD BOULEVARD ROAD CONSTRUCTION HAS STARTED BETWEEN HILLS CENTER DRIVE AND RANCHO DRIVE
Continuing through the next 18 weeks, new roadway improvements will be constructed on Lake Mead Boulevard between Hills Center Drive and Rancho Drive.
Work hours will generally be 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. A minimum of two lanes in each direction will be kept open during peak morning and afternoon drive times. Between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., traffic may be restricted to one lane in each direction. In order to facilitate traffic needs, work activities will shift to overnight hours in areas without adjacent residential communities.
Preliminary work was completed last year, and consisted of improvements to sidewalk areas to meet federal Americans with Disabilities Act requirements. The current work consists of installation of traffic signal interconnect conduit, removal and reconstruction of deteriorated areas of pavement, median island modifications for improved traffic flow and safety, full-width structural pavement mill and overlay, and roadway striping.
Motorists are advised to use Cheyenne Avenue or Summerlin Parkway as alternate routes.
Las Vegas Paving Corporation is the contractor. The city of Las Vegas Department of Operations and Maintenance is managing the project, which is being funded through Fuel Revenue Indexing. The estimated cost for this project is $4 million.
About Fuel Revenue Indexing
Fuel revenue indexing ties the fuel tax to the rate of inflation so critically needed transportation infrastructure projects can be funded in Southern Nevada. In Clark County, the indexing is effective from Jan. 1, 2014, to Dec. 31, 2016. For motorists, that means an additional 3 cents per gallon at the pump, or a dime a day for the average driver during the next three years. The funding will generate up to $700 million in bonds to fund 185 regional and locally significant transportation projects and create between 8,931 and 9,467 person-years of employment.
