RECOMMENDING MEETING APRIL 14
The Las Vegas City Council Recommending Committee will meet to consider new bills before the City Council Monday, April 14, at 10 a.m. in the Las Vegas City Hall City Clerk’s Conference Room, located on the second floor at 495 S. Main St. The public is welcome to attend. The complete agenda is available online. Please join me for the meeting if your schedule allows.

The Las Vegas City Council will meet at 9 a.m. Wednesday, April 16, in Council Chambers on the second floor of City Hall, located at 495 S. CELEBRATING LIFE! 2014
Southern Nevada residents age 50 and better are invited to enter the annual Celebrating Life! juried fine art competition. Entry is free, limited to one work per artist. Entries are due April 22-23, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Charleston Heights Arts Center, 800 S. Brush St.  See the brochure for all the details.

PIRATE FEST APRIL 25-27
The pirates are returning to Lorenzi Park April 25-27, bigger and better! Pirate Fest Las Vegas is a hands-on family-oriented event sponsored by Councilman Barlow and the city of Las Vegas, featuring music, entertainers, vendors, food, games, activities and more! If you like the Pirates of the Caribbean, you'll love Pirate Fest Las Vegas.

Build a ship or other floaty thing entirely out of cardboard, then paddle it yourself in the Pirate Fest Cardboard Regatta race on the Lorenzi Park lake April 26 during the festival.  It’s free to enter, sponsored by Zappos!  Win an award for the Most Creative, Fastest or Best Davy Jones in one of two divisions (individual or group).  See the flier and check out the festival online.  For more information, call 702-631-6682 or email to regatta@piratefestlv.com.

PURPLE UP FOR MILITARY KIDS
April marks the nation’s “Month of the Military Child,” a time to honor youth impacted by deployment. In celebration, the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension, invites you to participate in the 2nd annual “Purple Up! For Military Kids.” Everyone across the state of Nevada is encouraged to wear purple on Friday, April 25, as a visible way to show support and thank military children for their strength and sacrifices. Purple is the color that symbolizes all branches of the military, as it is the combination of Army green, Coast Guard blue, Air Force blue, Marine red and Navy blue.
