City Hits Home Run With Major League Park

Residents of East Las Vegas will be able to “play ball” like the pros as part of a $25.9 million sports complex at Freedom Park that was approved by the City Council in December.

The City Council entered into an agreement with Big League Dreams, based in Chino Hills, California, to operate a sports complex at Freedom Park that would include six fields that are replicas of major league baseball parks for softball and baseball.

The complex will also include two restaurants, an indoor sports area, batting cages and volleyball courts and should be open within two years. While the city is responsible for building the facility, it expects to recoup its investment within 6 years from annual fees from Big League Dreams and a percentage of revenue.

The Big League Dreams complex is a big part of the overall $47.2 million plan to upgrade the 68-acre park.

In the spring, a new $5.3 million swimming pool is expected to open at Freedom Park. There also are plans for two new soccer fields and to redo the park's walking trails.
