City Adds New Fire Station

Residents living in a growing part of the city will receive some added fire protection thanks to a partnership between with the city of Las Vegas and The Howard Hughes Corporation.

Construction has already started on the new Fire Station 47, located at 911 Ridge Pine, west of the 215 off Far Hills Ave. The station will serve the fast growing area of Summerlin west, which is bounded by Charleston Boulevard and Cheyenne Avenue on the west side of the 215 Beltway.

The new station, which will house an engine company with four firefighters on duty each shift, will have three bays, following the prototype of other recently opened fire stations in the city of Las Vegas.

The new building and land, which cost approximately $4.6 million, are being donated by The Howard Hughes Corporation to the city of Las Vegas.

The new station is expected to open sometime during November 2006. In the interim, a temporary fire station of one engine company is being placed into service near Palo Verde High School to help serve that area. The temporary station will stay in service until the new station is opened.
